Privacy policy

This policy explains what stef does this ("we", "us") collects when you use this website and download StefKit, why, how long we keep it, and what you can do about it. We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Who we are

stef does this is run by the creator of the @stefdoesthis YouTube channel. For anything in this policy, email [email protected].

Reading the site

You can read every page without an account and without giving us any personal information. The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes technical request data such as your IP address to serve and protect it.

Analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. It records which pages are viewed, the referring site, the browser and device type, and the country, and shows them to us only as totals. It sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser.

The video

Pages with the video show a preview image that loads from YouTube's image server, which sees your IP address like any image host. The YouTube player itself loads only when you press play. It comes from youtube-nocookie.com, and from then on Google's privacy policy applies to it.

Downloading StefKit

The download needs no email and no account. The file comes from our download server on Cloudflare, which processes technical request data such as your IP address to send it. We count downloads per day. The count holds no IP address and nothing else about you.

The StefKit app

StefKit has no account of its own, asks for no personal information, and sends nothing to us. Video and audio never leave your PC, and the shorts it makes are saved there. It goes online only for these jobs:

  • Setup. The first time it runs, it downloads the parts it needs, about 60 MB, from GitHub, PyPI, and Hugging Face. Those sites see your IP address, like any download.
  • Video links. When you paste a YouTube, Twitch, or Kick link, it fetches that video from the site it is on. A video file you pick on your PC is not uploaded anywhere.
  • AI options. If you choose one, StefKit sends text only, snippets of the video's transcript, to OpenAI through your ChatGPT sign-in, or to the service whose API key you pasted in. That service's own privacy policy covers what it does with the text.

Without an AI option, StefKit works offline after setup, apart from fetching a link you paste.

Email list

Joining the email list is optional, and the download never depends on it. When you send the form, we store:

  • your email address;
  • which page you signed up on;
  • the version of the line the form showed you, plus the IP address and browser user-agent of the request, as a record of your agreement and to prevent abuse;
  • when you signed up, and when you unsubscribe if you do.

We use your address only to email you about new free tools and big updates to the ones we have. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately. You can also email [email protected] to be taken off the list or deleted.

Spam prevention

The form uses a hidden field that only bots fill in, a check that rejects forms sent implausibly fast, and a limit on signups per IP address. Rate-limit records hold the form name and your IP address, and are deleted automatically, normally within a day.

Emailing us

If you email [email protected], we keep your message and your address so we can answer you and handle any follow-up.

How long we keep it

  • Download counts: kept, since they hold no personal information.
  • Rate-limit records: normally deleted within a day.
  • Email list: while you are on the list. After you unsubscribe, we keep the address marked as unsubscribed so we never email it by mistake. Ask us and we delete it completely.
  • Emails you send us: as long as we need them to answer you. Deleted on request.

Who processes your data

  • Cloudflare: website hosting, Web Analytics, the download server and its file storage, and the database that holds the email list. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
  • Google (YouTube): the video player and its preview images. See Google's privacy policy.

These providers are based in the United States, so your information may be processed there and in other countries where they operate.

Legal bases (EEA and UK)

  • Email list: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • Analytics, download counts, spam prevention, and answering email: our legitimate interest in running a secure site and replying to people who write to us.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct, export, or delete the personal information we hold about you, and you can object to how we use it. Email [email protected] from the address concerned, with "Privacy request" in the subject. We answer within 30 days. Depending on where you live, you may have more rights under local law. In the EEA and UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

The site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
